Joe Gakenheimer

Welcome to my Franklin IIS 5.0 home. I am still working on this site, probably be done by Christmas. I have put together this little client server page so visitors can post a message, an article, a question, or whatever you like. So if you have something nice to say, or an opinion of the University, or even me, just login and leave a message; and thanks for stopping by.

U.S. forces have launched Operation Iron Hammer, attacking targets in Baghdad overnight, said Capt. David Gercken. The operation follows increased attacks on coalition forces, including Wednesday's bombing that killed 26 people in Nasiriya.

Five Japanese whaling ships set out Friday to catch an estimated 410 whales,  11/7/2003
Suey

The fleet set sail from the southern port of Shimonoseki with a crew of 200 aboard the five ships, including the 7,638-ton Nisshinmaru mother ship, Fisheries Agency spokesman Shuji Sato said.

Sato said the purpose of the expedition is research, and the data to be collected will be reported to the International Whaling Commission for use in whale population studies. The expedition is set to last until next April and is Japan's 17th to the Antarctic since the program began in 1987. The International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling in 1986, but approved restricted hauls for Japan's research program a year later. Anti-whaling critics, including the United States, Britain and Australia, say the program is commercial whaling in disguise because -- though in keeping with IWC rules -- most of the whale meat ends up in restaurants. Japan is one of the world's largest consumers of whale meat, considered a delicacy here. The government sells the meat from the research catches at local fish markets, and uses the proceeds to pay for the U.S. $37 million a year research program.

What is this sites Purpose?

I try not to make my sites too fancy, I know that Computer Scientist hate that stuff. I have just been doing this stuff for a while and it is very easy for me. I would much rather be a full-fledge programmer, but the economy says that is not currently possible. And to please the Computer Scientist as best as I can, I have made this an XHTML page. Not XHTML compatible, but an XHTML document that is XML compatible. Saw no reason to make it an XML page with XSL Stylesheet because it would give no more aesthetic usages, plus it may not be viewable on many browsers.

But really, this site, besides the three images, is table free and is held together implementing divs and stylesheets. I put a few hours into this page, but the subsequent pages (examples) are very plain, simply formatted, with a lit bit of color. Really, I have to put some color onto the pages, can't stand just plain text So won't find any Tables on this page or the subsequent pages, unless it is for its intended use, to display records in a column/row format.

Web design to me is a part programming part artistic approach at human contact interaction. My whole plan is to make something which is easy to read, easy to navigate, pleasant to see, and efficient fast loading code and tags. I imagine that this will be one of the last web pages that I will make at Franklin University, or at least being displayed here. Since I will finish degree in April (2004), thought I should make this, it should be displayed through the end of 2004. If you ever need to get a hold of me about a particular question, consulting work, or just to say hello, I can be best reached at joegakenheimer@columbus.rr.com

So if you would like to post a message, go ahead, you can always come back and edit it or delete it at your discretion. You can even add your own HTML if you want, ever tried that at a corporate site; IT'S FUN! If you have any problems, let me know, just send me an email. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to be nosy!
