HTML Text Highlighter
Comments:
I get asked a lot how I create certain things on my web site or on professional sites. Obviously, a lot of it comes from years of study and practice, but for simple and easy to explain things I definately like to share those things.
So I was asked recently how to highlight HTML text and to tell you the truth it is pretty easy, at least for browsers other than IE You may follow this blog or view a very plain example I posted recently in another of my directories.

Netscape 8.0 is Trash!
Comments:
Sorry, but Netscape 8.0 is trash. Why? Netscape 8.0 is AOL 9.0 which is Mozilla Firefox 1.04, but fancied up. The browser, itself, is perfectly fine, though the email software is no longer available for this version. I used to like Netscape because it was the final build from Mozilla, now it is the test build for Mozilla FireFox.

Decent Bowling Season
Comments:
Like the title says, Decent Bowling Season, though it was definately not spectacular. Personally, I felt like I improved my game and accomplished some of the goals I was looking for; as for the team, we finished near the bottom. But on a personal not (and since this is my blog, i'll bloat), I achieved my highest average ever in a league, 224, and made it through the saeson with no 3 game series under 600.
It was the last year for the league, known as the 1460 WBNS All-Star Trio League, it will be replaced next season as the NewsCenter 6 All-Star Trio League. So the league will basically remain the same, but the names will change.

The Trouble with Tribbles
Comments:
My New Friend(above), had a surprise for me around dusk this evening. A typical day of work, gym, come home tired and grumpy was playing out until I heard a little sqweak. Well it is that time of year and if my hormones have picked up then obviously it is affecting everyone else; or anything else! So I knew what the sqweak was, kind of figured that this may happen. Yes, the raccoon had a litter, right in my fireplace.
I took a couple of little peaks, but wanted to leave them alone. Normally, raccoon's have between 1 and 7 pups from their litter, so I'd guess there are around 2 little ones.
But it was kind of neat, when I got home their was only one little sqweak, but as the evening progressed the squeaks grew louder and I think from more than one. The squeaks were very high pitched and soft, very much like the Tribbles, from Star Trek TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles;" Stardate: 4523.3
But it has been a long night for Mom, as well as me, since the little ones are waking up about every 15 minutes. So as night closes, the world has a couple of new inhabitants in it, maybe one of them will grow up to be President!

Somebody's Watching Me
Comments:
As Maxwell Rockwell once said, "Somebody's Watching Me;" that is if you are old enough to remember. And there was someone watching me or put another way "Something was Watching Me!"
If you checkout the comments I stuck in another picture of my new buddy. My philosophy is to leave wild animals alone. I believe only domesticated dogs and cats can be good pets; or members of the family, nothing else though. So I try to let the animals live eventhough I just had to take this picture. I could have probably let the little critter in and maybe even hand fed it, but to do that would be to endanger it so a picture will have to do. And eventhough he or she stops by once or twice an evening, probably only to find some food, I do officially have at least one friend!
I did take some other photos, and you can view them here:

Started My New Job
Comments:
Yes, I began my new job about a month ago and yes I still have trouble sleeping at night; but no need to fret, I only have about a 4 minute drive! Come on I really have to brag about something, 1.25 miles to work, you just can't beat that. It takes me 7.5 minutes, on average to grab my stuff and to get to my desk. But what I am really excited about is that I feel that for the first time in any of my careers(?) that I finally will be at a position that is important. I expect this to be a permanent position where I can spend my career and learn and fullfill my employment goals. I should also get free tuition reimbursement, should I make it through the probationary period; which I will definately take advantage of.
I don't necessarily know if I can even talk about my position, it is a government position and suspect they have certain regulations against squawcking about yourself and your position. I guess the way the economy is today, job security is very scary. And my biggest concern is that I won't be challenged enough or that I will get laid off without any job skills. Just get scared of that stuff, seen too many people living the high-life then end up at the grocery store or Walmart; some crud like that. So maybe I should just let things happen, instead of worrying about everything!

Slightly Revised Version
Comments:
Did a very big make over of the site, though it appears not much has changed. I am not an HTML guru or even consider myself a Web Designer, I am a programmer who has a lot of experience in front-end design and from time to time gets the urge to be creative; unfortunately, this is not one of them!. But when I either have the time or the urge I search through the Internet and checkout what the guru's have been upto. And what I learned is that the new rage in HTML development is the migration to XHTML and to Div's. Since I have been doing some simpler web screens on some of my my consulting projects, that I would try it in a complex manner like my previous home page layout.
I will add some updates and other my thoughts about this topic in the comments section.
During my deployment, I am seeing tons of errors, so there will probably be a lot of comments!

VB.Net or C#
Comments:
As I go through my daily ritual of job hunting, I have noticed that people are looking for C# experience. My question is, what is the big deal with C#, is it that much better than VB.Net? From the books I have read and the research I have conjured, it is basically the same thing, except for a few minor tweaks, style, and other tidbits. But why call it C#, at least to me it is nothing like C++ except for the usages of destructors and constructors; which is a little like get, set, and let; right. And it isn't like C++ because of the single inheritance, where C++ has multi-class inheritance. So, it sounds a lot like Java! Well it looks like Java and sometimes coding VB.Net or C# my college days kick in and I start coding Java. Though C# is much closer to Java than C++, to me the only language it is similar to is VB.Net. So why don't we just call it VB#. Nah, I do understand the reason for it though, C and C++ is very robust and very difficult and very large, so in my opinion C# is an excellent idea. I am sure the Microsoft corporate people really like it, plus like Java it is derived from C++, so eventhough its fraternal sister is VB.Net, it does make sense; but not for an indepth knowledge to get a job.

NW is not that Smart
Comments:
Just Added an employee at Nationwide Insurance who is a also a current Franklin student has been stealing my programs. I took the class which he is now taking(the Operating Systems) course about a year ago. It is extremely hard, so since I guess I am not good enough for NW and he is, I see no need to continue sharing certain Java and C++ programs right now. If you need to see any of my code and you are an employer, please drop me a line, I have no problems with sharing my code, but not to someone else can get my position. Because I can hack better than him, I do have his name, address, email, and phone numbers if you need them!

7-10 Split
Comments:
Some say the picking up the 7-10 split is one of the most difficult accomplishments in sports. I picked it up on 10/14/2004 and was pretty excited about it. I have been bowling on and off since I was 6 years old, so I figured I would do it eventually; plus I am fairly good, not quite good enough to make a living at it but at professional level (I did make a feable attempt about the time I turned 30!). So what do you think, do you think it is a big deal or not. Considering that bowling is the most participate recreational sport in the U.S., and that it anuually has nearly 2 million sactioned league bowlers; I think it is a legitimate big deal. I would rank it with an alabtross or a hole in one. Today, 300 games are pretty frequent for strong bowlers, such as a 300 yard drive is to golf. So every once in a while a player hits the bowl in the cup from 150 yards out, the same is in bowling: you only need 12 decent shots in a row!

Div or Table?
Comments:
Just Added While developing this site I went to various guru sites and noticed this Blog thing going on. Thought it was a pretty cool idea, but at the same time noticed that many people are getting away from the usings tables within tables within tables approach to web design. It is not a complete pain, but it is diffcult to get things exact testing with more than one browser. But the more I go to sites and have to wait for not only the images to download, but also and more increasingly annoying the table cells to get into their proper place I am more atuned to developing table less sites for now on; or at least in only certain situations. The funny thing is that the philosophy of Jacob Nielsen are finally trickling down into mainstream sites, not ecommerce, but to higher level personal and informational sites. Which reminds me, I need to go through and add some alt tags and other resourses to allow all users to view this information.
